La Rochelle
Just over an hour by car from Les Girauderies, via the A10 autoroute northbound. See map below.
Ile de Ré
A must see right next to La Rochelle accessed via a causeway bridge with wonderful views of the sea and Ile de Ré island Rochefort – an easy drive just south of La Rochelle, its principle attractions are the historical naval buildings including the arsenal and corderie where ships ropes were made in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Saintes
A super place to wander around and only 30 minutes from Les Girauderies via the village of Gemozac. Saintes has its origins in Roman times; you’ll notice this as soon as you arrive in the town centre and see the large Arch of Germanicus (a Roman triumphal arch) on the banks of the river.
